A BIT OF TRIVIA
The Seamaster Cosmic was introduced in 1967, jumping on the hype for space travel and everything space related. The continued relationship with NASA only strengthened Omega’s position, as the preferred manufacturer. It generated new life into the Seamaster range. The production run was for less than a decade.
THE WATCH
The 166.036 Omega Seamaster Cosmic has a monocoque (coque is French for hull) case design, made from a solid piece of stainless steel, access to the movement is by removing the crystal with a special tool 107 as stated on the back. A flat back and angled sides make the watch comfortable to wear. On the right side a large signed crown. The case holds the domed crystal without a bezel, Its brush grey dial is immaculate. An outer dark grey chapter ring with applied steel indices, finished with chamfered edges that catch the light as you rotate your wrist. At 3 o’clock a day/date framed window. Slim sword hands with black infill complete with a tapered sweeping center seconds hand. At 12 o’clock the applied Omega, automatic at 6 o’clock “Seamaster” “Cosmic” printed in black. On the reverse, the Hippocampus etched onto the surface. Inside an Automatic Omega Cal. 752, 24 jewels, 19,800 beats per hour. The Quickest date is done by repeatedly pulling the crown into the final position.
Turler Co-SIGNED DIAL
Very occasionally during the 1960s and 1970s brands like Omega and Rolex allowed the retailer they distributed to co-sign their watches, often during the production or at factory depending on where batches were sold.
In this case we have a special example of a Seamaster Cosmic, with a brushed silver dial and dark grey outer chapter ring , which is all original, featuring a crisp case, and signed "Turler" dial.
In 1883,Türler brothers founded the watch manufacturer Türler. Based in the town of Biel/Bienne in Switzerland. Turler opened its first store in 1907 and has established itself as a prominent jeweller and watch retailer. Today Turler still runs, but from Zurich, Switzerland
This extra detail makes this watch a little bit more special, and it also reflects the history of the brand and quality of the company.
OUR THOUGHTS
This Seamaster Cosmic co-signed with Turler is a fantastic vintage watch that is not often on the market, it wears beautifully on the wrist and is in fantastic condition, a must have for the avid collector.
