When King Seiko was born in 1961, it was the creation of Daini Seikosha in Tokyo, while its great rival, Grand Seiko, came from Suwa Seikosha. The two factories belonged to the same company but were fiercely competitive in their pursuit of mechanical excellence. So imagine the surprise when Seiko introduced its first automatic King Seikos in 1968, and the new 56KS was actually produced by Suwa, the very factory behind Grand Seiko! This 5625-7000 belongs to that pioneering generation, appearing in Seiko's 1968 Japanese catalogue. A King Seiko built by the Grand Seiko side of the family.
