A BIT OF TRIVIA

Longines was founded in 1832 by Auguste Agassiz in Saint-Imier, Switzerland. In 1867, under the leadership of Ernest Francillon, the company established its first factory in the area known as Les Longines ("long meadows"), giving rise to the Longines name. This move marked a significant step towards modern production methods. In 1878, Longines developed its first chronograph movement, the 20H, a "mono-pusher" chronograph, in which all three chronograph functions (start, stop, and reset) were controlled via the crown. This innovation laid the foundation for Longines' future in precision timekeeping.

The Longines Admiral collection is one of the brand's most enduring lines, noted for its versatility in blending sporty functionality with elegant design. Introduced in the late 1950s, the Admiral series has evolved over decades, encompassing models from classic dress watches to more robust divers.

Launched in the late 1950s, the Longines Admiral collection was part of a broader strategy to diversify the brand's offerings. This period also saw the introduction of other notable lines such as the Flagship and Conquest series. The Admiral line distinguished itself with its distinctive 5-star motif on the dial, symbolizing the brand's commitment to excellence.

In the 1960s and 1970s, the Admiral series expanded to include models with features like day-date complications and high-frequency movements. For instance, some models were equipped with the Caliber 431, a high-frequency movement introduced by Longines in 1967, known for its precision.

OUR THOUGHTS

Vintage Longines Admiral watches are highly regarded among collectors for their quality and design. Models from the 1960s and 1970s, in particular, are sought after due to their distinctive features and historical significance. The combination of robust construction, elegant design, and reliable movements makes the Admiral series a standout in Longines' history.
