A BIT OF TRIVIA
The history of OMEGA began in 1848, when Louis Brandt set up a watchmaking business in La Chaux-de-Fonds. His business was innovative in that the work was divided between different production units, each specializing in a particular part of the movement. All the components were then assembled under the brand name "Louis Brandt".
Later in 1879, the founder left the management to his two sons, Louis Paul and César Brandt. Their first decision was to rename the company Louis Brandt and Fils. They also decided to move their brand to Bienne, in the canton of Bern, a decision motivated by the desire of the two men to transform their business into an industrial one, the canton of Bern being more favourable to this development.
In 1894, the two brothers introduced the 19-line calibre, which revolutionized watchmaking at the time. Each piece was interchangeable by any watchmaker in the world, and the two brothers decided to name their creation "OMEGA" in reference to the ultimate achievement. The success of this calibre was so great that the brand decided to change its name to "OMEGA Watch & CO". This calibre was for a long time the brand's best-selling calibre, accounting for almost 33% of the brand's production over two decades.
Since its creation, the brand has always sought to establish itself as a pioneer and leader in the watchmaking world, and has been associated with numerous records, both scientific and sporting. Several models of the brand have been on James Bond's wrist since 1995.
The Seamaster Cosmic was introduced in 1967, jumping on the hype for space travel and everything space-related. The continued relationship with NASA only strengthened Omega’s position, as the preferred manufacturer. It generated new life into the Seamaster range. The production run was for less than a decade.

Slim sword hands complete with a tapered sweeping centre seconds hand. At 12 o’clock the applied Omega, at 6 o’clock “Seamaster” “Cosmic” printed. On the reverse, the Hippocampus is etched onto the surface. Inside an Manual Omega Cal. 601, 17 jewels, 19,800 beats per hour.
OUR THOUGHTS
The Seamaster Cosmic 135.017 is such a fantastic vintage option in the Omega world, yet it is often overlooked due to the fact it is 35mm and people often think it is far too small, but believe me, on the wrist, it wears beautifully and would likely surprise a lot of you! Paired with its original omega bracelet fully serviced and this watch is in amazing condition overall and well worth the consideration.
