The Seiko 5126 movement comes from the Seiko 5100 range of automatic movements produced in the Daini factory between 1969 and 1971 for the Japanese domestic market. Compared to many other Seiko models, the 5126 is relatively rare with fewer good examples available. The 5126 is different from many other Seiko movements. It has more parts and complexity in its automatic and setting mechanisms. The automatic mechanism is a bit more “swiss” in design. The quickset mechanism has some unusual, layered spring-driven sliding components

THE WATCH

An April 1969 vintage watch the 5126-8130 features a muscular cushion case with brushed top and polished sides accompanied by a checkered bezel that is more commonly known as "Rally Style". It’s an automatic winding, 23 jewel, 19,800bph movement with a day date complication. These weren’t produced for very long and consequently you don’t see them very often these days. it’s a Japanese domestic market model which means exactly what it says, it was designed and produced for the Japanese domestic market

OUR THOUGHTS

This model was one of a number of designs that formed part of the second wave of Seiko 5 Sports models that hit the Japanese domestic market at the end of the 1960’s. The zigzag emblem on the dial marks this watch as a product of the Daini division, whose early contributions to the 5 Sports range were fitted with the newly designed 51 series of automatic movements. The 5126A as fitted to this model runs at 19800 bph and features a day/date calendar with date quickset operated by depressing the crown. It has been serviced and is now ready for you to take it on into the future.
