This July 1969 vintage Seiko is the original 5126-6030 nicknamed the 'Double Hurricane' because of the two rotating bezels: an external one, and an internal chequered bezel which is moved by turning the crown. It’s an automatic winding, 23 jewel, 19,800bph movement with a day date complication. These weren’t produced for very long and consequently you don’t see them very often these days, especially in this great condition.  This model was one of a number of  designs that formed part of the second wave of Seiko 5 Sports models that hit the Japanese domestic market at the end of the 1960’s. The zigzag emblem on the dial marks this watch as a product of the Daini division, whose early contributions to the 5 Sports range were fitted with the newly designed 51 series of automatic movements.  The 5126A as fitted to this model runs at 19800 bph and features a day/date calendar with date quickset operated by depressing the crown. 

Seiko have just re-released this watch again paying tribute to this popular Seiko 5 Sports watch, which they state is a firm fan favourite, and there is nothing like having the original.

OUR THOUGHTS

The iconic Double hurricane is a great addition to any collection, this watch wears so well being 41mm an its right at home in the modern day. Seiko obviously thought very highly of this watch to make modern version of it, and although the modern watch is well priced, personally I would have the original over the reproduction.
