THE WATCH

The 5626-7110 arrived in 1971 as a sharper, more architectural King Seiko. The broad polished planes, pointed lugs and narrow dial furniture give it the crisp geometry that makes the 56KS instantly recognisable, while the day-date keeps it grounded as a watch designed to be used rather than simply admired.

On this example, the light silver dial and restrained furniture leave enough space for the case geometry to do the talking. It has that very Seiko combination of precision and practicality: carefully drawn, clearly detailed and still entirely comfortable being an everyday watch.

A BIT OF TRIVIA

The 5626-7110 is one of the interesting crossovers in the King Seiko story because it came from Suwa Seikosha rather than Daini, the division originally associated with King Seiko. Its 56-series automatic movement shared its family with Grand Seiko, while the one-piece case allowed fine regulation from outside the watch through a small access point between the lugs. A very practical bit of watchmaking hidden inside an unusually elegant design.

OUR THOUGHTS

We like the 5626-7110 because it gets the balance right. The silver dial lets the sharp case carry the personality, while the day-date keeps the watch useful rather than precious. It is a very clean expression of what 56KS was about: strong design, serious watchmaking and no unnecessary theatre.
