Powered by an Omega-branded 1342 quartz movement based on ETA technology, typically operating at 32 kHz. These movements were designed for accuracy, reliability, and low maintenance, allowing the watches to be significantly thinner than their mechanical counterparts.

In terms of design, the 196.0079 is very much a product of its era. It features a clean, minimalist brushed dial with baton markers, slim stick hands, and a simple, understated stainless steel case.

A BIT OF TRIVIA

On Omegas website they have this model down as a Constellation, but the dial bares no model name, one reason is that Omega was going through a period of major change in the 1970s, particularly because of the Quartz Crisis.

The 196.0071 sits in Omega's early quartz period, when the company was producing a wide range of watches and experimenting with new movements and designs. Not every reference was assigned to one of the established families such as Seamaster, Genève or De Ville. Some were simply marketed under the Omega name, with the reference number being the main way of identifying the model. Although the 196.0071 doesn't carry the model line name, it is actually on Omegas official website as Constellation.
