THE WATCH
The 14765, features Omega's Unishell (front-loading) case. Instead of opening through the caseback, the movement is removed from the front after the crystal and bezel are taken off. This construction gave the watch a sleeker profile and improved water resistance for its time. The reference was produced in stainless steel, gold-capped, and solid gold variants.
The Omega Seamaster 14765-1 SC reflects what the Seamaster line has always stood for: versatility with a sense of quiet elegance rather than outright sportiness. Produced in the early 1960s, this reference comes in a 34 mm case that wears slightly larger thanks to its elongated lugs, giving it a balanced yet confident presence on the wrist.
On Omega case references, “SC” stands for seconde centrale, French for centre seconds indicating that the watch features a centrally mounted seconds hand rather than a subdial. It’s a small detail, but one that ties into the clean, practical layout the model is known for.
The sunburst dial, complemented by applied indices with subtle inlays that enhance both contrast and legibility. Sharp dauphine hands move cleanly across the surface, and a neatly framed date window at three o’clock adds everyday functionality without disrupting the symmetry. Powering the watch is the automatic calibre 552, a 24-jewel, 19800 bph movement from Omega’s respected 500-series, valued for its reliability and accuracy.
A BIT OF TRIVIA
The Omega Seamaster was first introduced in 1948, launched to celebrate Omega's 100th anniversary. Drawing on technology developed for military watches during World War II, the early Seamaster models were designed as stylish yet durable timepieces. These watches offered water resistance suitable for daily wear and light aquatic activity, combining elegance with a new level of functionality for the time.
In 1957, Omega released the Seamaster 300, a true professional dive watch. Although rated for 200 meters, it was marketed as a 300-meter diver due to its robust construction. It quickly gained popularity among divers and military professionals and was part of Omega’s legendary "Professional Trilogy," alongside the Speedmaster and Railmaster. This marked a shift from the dressier origins of the Seamaster to a more tool-oriented watch.
During the 1960s and 70s, the Seamaster line expanded significantly. Omega introduced models like the Seamaster De Ville, which leaned toward elegant dress watches, and more experimental designs such as the Seamaster Cosmic with its distinctive cases and dials. The line continued to evolve with features like chronograph functions, automatic movements, and even integrated bracelets, showing off both Omega’s technical capabilities and stylistic innovation.
