THE WATCH

The Omega Seamaster Ref. 14770 is a classic vintage automatic wristwatch produced during the early 1960s. As one of the elegant "pre-De Ville" Seamaster references, it is admired for its clean, understated styling and exceptional build quality, making it a popular choice among collectors and enthusiasts of vintage Swiss watches.

Powered by the highly regarded Omega Calibre 562 automatic movement, with 24 jewels and offers hours, minutes, centre seconds and a date display. The Calibre 562 is celebrated for its reliability, smooth operation and robust construction, earning a reputation as one of Omega's finest non-chronometer automatic movements of the period.

The watch features a 34mm case with a original singed omega domed acrylic crystal in a monocoque case embossed with Omega's iconic Seamaster hippocampus emblem. The sunburst dial is complemented by applied hour markers, dauphine hands and an applied Omega logo, giving the watch its timeless and sophisticated appearance.

A BIT OF TRIVIA

The Omega Seamaster was first introduced in 1948, launched to celebrate Omega's 100th anniversary. Drawing on technology developed for military watches during World War II, the early Seamaster models were designed as stylish yet durable timepieces. These watches offered water resistance suitable for daily wear and light aquatic activity, combining elegance with a new level of functionality for the time.

In 1957, Omega released the Seamaster 300, a true professional dive watch. Although rated for 200 meters, it was marketed as a 300-meter diver due to its robust construction. It quickly gained popularity among divers and military professionals and was part of Omega’s legendary "Professional Trilogy," alongside the Speedmaster and Railmaster. This marked a shift from the dressier origins of the Seamaster to a more tool-oriented watch.

During the 1960s and 70s, the Seamaster line expanded significantly. Omega introduced models like the Seamaster De Ville, which leaned toward elegant dress watches, and more experimental designs such as the Seamaster Cosmic with its distinctive cases and dials. The line continued to evolve with features like chronograph functions, automatic movements, and even integrated bracelets, showing off both Omega’s technical capabilities and stylistic innovation.

OUR THOUGHTS

Today, the Omega Ref. 14770 is highly regarded for its elegant proportions, dependable movement and enduring design. Well-preserved examples with original dials, sharp cases and correct signed components continue to be sought after by collectors, offering an excellent example of Omega's renowned craftsmanship during one of the most celebrated periods of Swiss watchmaking.
