A BIT OF TRIVIA

The Omega Seamaster was first introduced in 1948, launched to celebrate Omega's 100th anniversary. Drawing on technology developed for military watches during World War II, the early Seamaster models were designed as stylish yet durable timepieces.

During the 1960s and 70s, the Seamaster line expanded significantly. Omega introduced models like the Seamaster De Ville, which leaned toward elegant dress watches, and more experimental designs such as the Seamaster Cosmic with its distinctive cases and dials. The line continued to evolve with features like chronograph functions, automatic movements, and even integrated bracelets, showing off both Omega’s technical capabilities and stylistic innovation.

THE WATCH

This Omega Seamaster 166.037 is an automatic wristwatch from 1968, featuring a stainless steel case approximately 34mm in diameter. It houses the Omega Caliber 565, a highly regarded 24-jewel movement with a quickset date function, activated by repeatedly pulling the crown to the outer position. The watch features a screw-down case, and a dial with applied baton hour markers and minimal text.

OUR THOUGHTS

I've always had a weakness for these less celebrated Seamasters. They remind me that Omega's reputation wasn't built solely on glamorous Constellations or professional diving watches.

It was built on watches like this, too. Carefully engineered movements, thoughtful design and the quiet confidence of something made to be worn and enjoyed.

There's something immensely satisfying about seeing one still doing precisely what its makers intended nearly sixty years later.
