THE WATCH
The Omega Seamaster reference 136.020 is a refined late-1960s dress watch that captures the brand’s understated design language of the era. With its clean dial layout, applied indices, and balanced proportions, it has a quietly elegant presence on the wrist that works effortlessly in both casual and formal settings.
Inside, it is powered by the calibre 613, part of Omega’s 600-series manual-wind movements. Beating at 19,800 vibrations per hour, it offers reliable timekeeping alongside a practical quickset date function, making it one of the more user-friendly hand-wound calibres of its time.
The case design is slim and well-proportioned, giving it a classic vintage wear that sits comfortably without feeling oversized. Its gold case adds warm tone which gives a subtle sense of richness to the overall look, enhancing the traditional Seamaster styling without overpowering it.
A BIT OF TRIVIA
In the early-to-mid 1960s, Omega regularly produced watches with “Seamaster De Ville” signed dials during a transitional period before De Ville became its own standalone collection. At the time, De Ville was not considered a separate range, but rather a designation used for the more refined and dress-oriented versions of the Seamaster line.
These watches combined the practicality and water-resistant construction of the Seamaster with slimmer cases, cleaner dial designs, and a more elegant overall appearance aimed at everyday formal wear. Because of this, many references from around 1963 to 1967 featured both names together on the dial and caseback, signed simply as “Omega Seamaster De Ville.”
Typical characteristics of these models included thin snap-back or semi-monocoque cases, minimalist dial layouts, dauphine or baton hands, and understated details such as crosshair or sunburst dials. Most were powered by Omega’s highly regarded 5xx and 6xx series automatic and manual-wind movements.
By around 1967, Omega had recognised the growing popularity of the De Ville name and separated it into its own independent collection. From that point onward, watches were generally signed either “Seamaster” or “De Ville,” rather than both together.
OUR THOUGHTS
Today, these Seamaster De Ville models are appreciated for representing an important crossover period in Omega’s history mechanically linked to the Seamaster family, yet stylistically pointing toward the cleaner, more refined identity that would later define the De Ville collection.
