THE WATCH

This circa 1964 Omega Seamaster De Ville 136.020 is a lovely example of the elegant watches Omega produced during the 1960s. Its 34mm gold-capped case frames a beautifully understated sunburst dial, with applied hour markers, slender hands and a date window at three o'clock. The light speckling on the dial adds a little character from its six decades of life.

Inside is Omega's manually wound calibre 611, operating at 19,800 vibrations per hour, which has been fully serviced in our workshop. The crystal has been replaced, with the original signed Omega crystal included alongside the watch.

A BIT OF TRIVIA

The Seamaster De Ville first appeared in Omega's collection in 1960, offering a more refined interpretation of the established Seamaster.

Its elegant styling proved so successful that Omega introduced De Ville as an independent collection in 1967. Interestingly, the Seamaster De Ville name continued to appear on watches in certain markets afterwards, making these earlier examples part of a fascinating period in Omega's history.

OUR THOUGHTS

There is something wonderfully appealing about the simplicity of this Seamaster De Ville. The warmth of the gold-capped case works beautifully with the understated dial, and at 34mm it has the lovely proportions of a classic vintage dress watch. I particularly enjoy the manually wound calibre 611; there's something rather satisfying about winding a watch each morning. An elegant little Omega with plenty of character and a genuine connection to the brand's history.
