First launched in 1966, Bell-Matic is the only mechanical alarm watch that Seiko has produced, and it is an exciting part of the brand's history. The watch we have here is a JDM 27 jewel Bell-Matic with a white sunburst dial the 4006-7011.
Inside the watch, it houses many technological achievements and complications. Day-Date complication, a mechanical driven alarm mechanism, two springs powering the watch's timing function and alarm functions, and an automatic self-winding mechanism for the timing function
The sunburst dial with the hour marker and hands highlighted in polished steel is considered as a special variance in the product line. The dial reminds us of our 45King Seiko we have had. Making this watch beautiful and functional.
The alarm function is indicated by the silver triangle on the outside chapter ring, it makes the mark simple yet not interrupting the design elements of the watch.
A BIT OF TRIVIA
Bell-Matic was a product line targeting busy professionals in Japan that didn't want to waste time in their life. Today we have our phones for this, which could make you think that the Bell-Matic's are superfluous but on the contrary, strangely they remind us that life isn't all about 'time' it can be fun, quirky and beautiful.
The ‘bell’ in the Bell-Matic is a curved metal sounding spring that is repeatedly struck by a small hammer powered by a spring unwinding. That spring is released by a lever moved by a wheel sitting on top of the hour wheel on the dial side. the 4006 utilizes two separate barrels for storing power. This ensures that the power required to ring the bell does not detract from the power reserve for timekeeping. A watch that powered its alarm via the regular mainspring would stop after the alarm sounded and not be particularly useful.
OUR THOUGHTS
The Seiko Bell-Matic 4006-7011 is a true slice of 1970s magic. Its striking white sunburst dial, dependable 27-jewel automatic movement, and charming mechanical alarm give it a character that stands out instantly. It balances vintage style with real practicality in a way few watches manage. More than just a timepiece, the Bell-Matic brings a little excitement to your wrist and offers an experience every enthusiast should try.
