THE WATCH

The 5606-7260 is Lord Matic at its most convincingly 1970s. The angular case and fitted bracelet form one strong shape, but the dial stops it feeling severe. Its graduated blue cross-hatch surface changes with the light, giving the watch texture and depth without making the face busy.

That is what makes the reference work so well. It remains a practical everyday Seiko, but design has clearly been treated as something worth noticing. The clear baton layout keeps it disciplined while the blue dial and bracelet make the whole watch unmistakably of its period.

A BIT OF TRIVIA

Lord Matic was unusual in that both of Seiko’s major watchmaking factories contributed to the family. Suwa produced the 5600-series models like this one, while Daini built the 5100 and 5200-series Lord Matics. One name therefore sits across two sides of Seiko’s internal watchmaking story at a time when those factories were also closely associated with Grand Seiko and King Seiko.

OUR THOUGHTS

For us, this 7260 starts and finishes with the dial. The blue is strong enough to give the watch real personality, but the cross-hatch texture keeps it sophisticated rather than flashy. With the angular case and fitted bracelet around it, the whole watch feels designed as one object. It is one of those Lord Matics that makes the 1970s look like a very good idea.
